From Mill to Material

From Mill to Material

I’ve been working with fibre from a recent mill run- Shetland, Ryeland and alpaca, returned as yarn and undyed rovings to be reworked in the studio.

Some of this is re-plied by hand into what I’m calling reclaimed lambswool: taking Scottish mill-spun yarn and adjusting structure, weight, and finish before dyeing.

Alongside that, I’ve been working through the fibre itself, preparing it for dyeing and carding into batts for handspinning and the shop.

This is the starting point: material before colour.
